Chasing a childhood dream
HC Girotra, the 76-year old definitely did not want to sit idle after retirement. He exactly knew how to fight the post-retirement blues as he had started the preparation early. He chased his childhood dream to become a doctor and serve people. Girotra gives free consultations to patients at the GK-II, Arya Samaj Mandir four days a week in the mornings and again attends patients at his Vikram Vihar house in the evening. Girotra says, "I always wanted to become a doctor. While I was studying medicine in Layalpur (Pakistan), the partition happened. My family shifted to India and my dream to study medicine was stalled. I soon had to look for a job to earn a living."
But Girotra could not let go of his dream. The inspiration has been his father who earned the reputation of 'Poor man's doctor' while practising allopathy. But Girotra had strong faith in Homeopathy. "Homeopathy cured me of a disease when I was young. So I was always wanted to study homeopathy." While, working as a government official, he enrolled himself as a student and started practising homeopathy. Girotra is also working as the president of the Vikram Vihar Senior Citizens' Forum.
