Maintain the sanctity of Hauz Khas Lake: residents
The people who go for a regular walk at the Deer Park in Hauz Khas Village are emotionally attached to it. They want to preserve this park at any cost. This was evident when the residents met the DDA and INTACH officials recently and suggested a few measures to maintain the glory of the Hauz Khas Lake. The lake was revived two years ago.
Says Pankaj Aggarwal, member of the Efforts Group, "We are happy that the DDA and INTACH have done a commendable job in reviving the Hauz Khas Lake, but at the same time they should be careful about maintaining the glory of the lake. Last year, the lake water had started emanating an unbearable stink as untreated water was allowed into the park. We don't want this to be repeated." According to another resident Col ML Khanna, "There is too much concrete structure in the park. Eating joints have been allowed inside the park; people bring polythene bags and other garbage and throw them into the lake. The environs should be free of any pollution. But these days commercial vehicles are allowed into the park because of the eating joints." Echoing similar concern, another resident Maj MC Sood said, "There are many dead trees submerged in the lake. They should be removed immediately as it would result in decomposition."
The following suggestions were made:
The island in the park should be made an exclusive bird island and it should not be made accessible to human beings by constructing any overbridge.
Fish should be released into the lake so that the water is free from mosquito larvae.
An information and suggestion board should be erected to show the updates on the quality of water.
All the 13 fountains should be made operational so that the water doesn't stagnate.
Police booth in dysfunctional state
Safdarjung Enclave, Pocket B-2: The police booth set up by the Delhi Police nearly one and half years ago is in a dysfunctional state. For the last one year, it has been lying vacant, no police personnel ever sits in the booth. Residents have to go to the Sarojini Nagar police station to register complaints or lodge FIRs. When the booth was set up, then DCP Deependra Pathak had promised that a sub-inspector would sit in the police booth daily between 6 pm and 8 pm. But nobody comes here and the place wears a deserted look. RWA president JR Gupta said, "The police doesn't seem to be showing any cooperation. There is no night patrolling and the beat constable visits the colony only during daytime. Contrary to the Delhi Police's promise that beat constables must visit the senior citizens regularly, the practice has been discontinued for the past one year." He further informed that the newly appointed SHO Kamala Meena had a meeting with the residents recently to discuss the law and order problem in the colony. She has assured that action will be taken within a fortnight.
Parking nuisance troubles residents
Safdarjung Enclave, Pocket B-5: The buses never stop at the B-5 market. The place has become a parking lot. Residents of this colony staying near the B-5 market find it difficult to park their own vehicles. It is not just the parking lot contractors who are misutilising the space, but also residents from the nearby DDA flats and the villages park their vehicles there. According to Maj Gen (Retd) HC Dua, B-5 RWA president, "The parking lot in the market has extended up to the Deer Park. We have taken up the matter several times with the police officials, MLA and the area Councillor, but nobody is paying any heed to the problem. There is no privacy."
